Description:

Astir Palace Aphrodite is just one of three hotels at the stunning Astir Palace Resort, 80 acres of wooded land on a promontory overlooking Vouliagmeni Bay, just 40 minutes from downtown Athens (easily accessible via shuttle bus). Of the other two hotels, Nafsika is monolithic, carved into the cliffside, and Arion stands tall on the promontory's highest point.

Aphrodite, though, stands out, and strikes us as the most unique of the three. Its location, atop a cliff at the end of the peninsula, makes for a feeling of seclusion and isolation — in fact it is difficult at times to remember that Aphrodite is not its own private island. The hotel is surrounded by pine trees, and boasts the most spectacular views of the surrounding waters, especially at sunset.

This is a luxury resort, and the amenities and service are extraordinary all around; but Aphrodite is by far the less formal hotel of the three, with a much more relaxed atmosphere. The rate, too, is lower than that at Arion and Nafsika, despite the superior location and comparable standard of service. Still, Aphrodite is no budget hotel — it has its own private beach, a fine Greek restaurant, its own pool and fitness facilities, and tennis and golf are available, as are an array of water sports.
